WHITE PAPER: Reporting Process Needs to Adjust with Changing Business Requirements

Reporting is Most Accurate
When you Know your Business Requirements –
Short Term and Long Term

Cetova Corp’s white paper, “Selecting the Right Reporting Software and Vendor”, continues to get interest from our readership. To provide some general follow up on your feedback, here’s an overview of its third section, “Business Requirements: Short and Long Term”.

When getting ready to launch an initiative on the best software for your company, often the immediate reaction is to consider the needs you have right now. This is critical for today’s internal and external reporting needs, but with changing regulations and dynamic organizational designs, it is valuable to also visualize the business evolution that could take place, and to make sure that your software is flexible, scalable and adaptable to your organization’s changing needs.

Cetova addresses your short and long term needs by going through a checklist with both your business and IT leaders. From the beginning, both groups must be engaged to keep open the lines of communication. To ensure that you are properly assessing your company’s needs, please look at our website.

How valuable are data extracts for reporting?

Carol Knouse, VP of Customer Care for Cetova, released a whitepaper a few weeks ago entitled, “Selecting the Right Reporting Software and Vendor”.  We’ve gotten a lot of great feedback on the white paper, so Cetova decided to summarize different sections of the white paper over a six week timespan, to make it easier for organizations to select the reporting tool that is most effective for their companies.

Recently we released the second section of the whitepaper called “Data Extracts”. This section explains why some business analysts prefer to have IT provide them with data dumps: It is easy to manipulate that data in a spreadsheet, especially if you are the sole analyst. If you have more than one analyst, though, wouldn’t it be nice to have one list of reports that are shared by all the users in your organization, instead of having tons of data dumps in individual spreadsheets?

It can be that easy! Look at our website and see the 2 ways you can help streamline your reporting process and save time!

Current Reports + Future Business Needs = Right Reporting Tool

In an earlier posting, Cetova Corp announced the release of its white paper, “Selecting the Right Reporting Software and Vendor”. Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’ve decided to share with you over the next few weeks, some of the white paper’s details.

The first section in the white paper is entitled “Review existing reports and queries”, but the section covers much more than that. Of course you should review your existing reports, they provide a great basis for starting your requirements discussions.  You also want to make sure that you do not overlook other business needs, like your company’s workaround spreadsheets. Additionally, you should discuss your organization’s future needs and the likelihood of their implementation.

To ensure that you are properly assessing your company’s business needs, please look on our website to see the 5 questions you need to ask your employees, and to take advantage of Cetova’s 2 suggestions for gathering other non-transparent documents that are used in your reporting process.

Press Release: Selecting the Right Reporting Software Vendor

Selecting the Right Reporting Software and Vendor
Cetova Corp Develops Checklist from which to Evaluate Candidates

Jersey City, N.J.—September 15, 2012Cetova, a provider of data management software solutions to ERP users, is pleased to announce the development of a business checklist to help organizations select the right reporting software for their environment. “Requirements gathering in preparation for undertaking a search and select of software products can be a daunting task,” says Carol Knouse, Cetova’s VP of Customer Care, That’s why Carol, based on her extensive corporate experience as a Chief Information Officer, developed a list of techniques which can dramatically shorten the process.

“When the Cetova team first walks into a client site,” says Carol, “there’s an extraordinary amount of energy put forth to address the company’s reporting challenges.” This energy is quickly transformed into a brainstorming session on the pros and cons of the client’s processes. “The obvious source of data is the formal reporting system,” says Carol. “The reality, though, is that there are always workarounds and islands of information – more than the client wants to admit.” Carol found her team spending an inordinate amount of time coaxing the client to share its reporting realities, such as all of the spreadsheets that key business users rely upon. To expedite this part of the kick-off process, Carol and her Cetova team started using a checklist of typical reporting workarounds. With this tool, the clients were quickly reassured that their not-so-efficient processes were fairly common, which facilitated their willingness to share information.

Cetova decided to formalize its proven methodology with a white paper on how it helps organizations develop business and reporting requirements, review vendors effectively, and select the best vendor and software that meets the needs of today and the future.
